Why SkinPen & VIPeel are the perfect combination of treatments

Aging may affect the entire body, but it’s often the facial skin that starts to betray the earliest signs of our advancing years. Anti-aging treatments and techniques to help counteract the signs of aging are some of the most popular cosmetic procedures available, and there are now more to choose from than ever before, including chemical peels and microneedling. While each is effective as a standalone treatment, combining the two offers patients the greatest improvement in their appearance. We are pleased to offer patients the opportunity to benefit from a combined SkinPen microneedling and VI peel treatment.

What is SkinPen?

SkinPen is the brand name of a device used for microneedling. Microneedling is a fairly new and highly popular and successful cosmetic treatment used to improve the appearance of the skin.

Microneedling involves the creation of countless micro injuries into the skin using, as you may have guessed, lots of tiny needles. As the SkinPen device is carefully moved across the skin, the needles puncture the top layers, creating these micro injuries and stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. This includes the production of collagen and elastin, which are two essential elements for the creation of healthy, strong, and supple skin. This increased epidermal integrity helps to improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Melasma
  • Rosacea
  • Other types of scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone

Microneedling is usually performed using a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort that you experience. Some blood spotting is not uncommon, and you should expect your face to feel tender and a little sore in the days and weeks following your procedure.

What is VIPeel?

VIPeel is a very popular, gentle but powerful medical-grade chemical peel treatment. This painless peel is applied by a therapist and can be used on the face, neck, and chest, as well as other areas of the body. It is also the only peel that is safe for the delicate area underneath the eyes. Once applied, the solution is left to dry and must be left on for at least 5 hours before being washed off.

The peel itself contains a complex blend of ingredients including trichloroacetic acid, tretinoic acid, and salicylic acid to remove the damaged outer layers of skin, promote faster turnover of cells, and refine and improve the surface layer of the skin.

VI Peel can be used to improve the appearance of:

  • Acne scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Age and sun spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Rosacea
  • Oily skin

Unlike some other chemical peels, VIPeel is safe to be used on all skin types and colors, though it is particularly effective on those patients with fair to medium skin color as it can cause hyperpigmentation on darker skin tones.

The combination of SkinPen and VIPeel

Despite both treatments being effective on their own, experts have found that when they are combined, the results are even more impressive. VIPeel should be applied following your SkinPen treatment. This is because the micro injuries caused by the microneedling device will enable faster and more effective absorption of the VIPeel, enhancing its penetration into the deeper layers of the skin and intensifying the effects that it has on cellular production.

Alternatively, some patients choose to have a chemical peel a few weeks ahead of SkinPen. This kickstarts the process of removing older, unhealthier skin cells before microneedling, which can then be more effective in trigger the production of fresh, new skin cells.
