San Diego Magazine recently put out its 2013 list of the Top Doctors in San Diego. Big deal you might think. After all, there are contests going on every day. Enter to win! Cast your vote here! In fact, vote more than once! But change your IP address first! Not so with voting for Top Doctor. This “contest” is for real and put on by the San Diego County Medical Society (SDCMS). Voting is strict.
Members of SDCMS are all practicing physicians and come from all specialties of medicine. Once a year they are polled for their choice of “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence” in any specialty where there are more than 20 physicians. Plastic Surgery is a competitive category. Voting is by ballot with no on-line trickery available. For the SDCMS, the ballot process represents an effort at a transparent, auditable, and fair means of identifying physicians that other physicians trust for their clinical skill.
