A Single Solution for a Double Chin

Woman with her hand on her face

A double chin is a layer of subcutaneous fat around the neck that sags down and creates a wrinkle, making the owner appear to have a second chin. Double chins are most common on people who are elderly (sagging skin) or obese (extra fat). A person of average weight can bear a double chin as well, depending on their bone structure, amount of loose skin, and amount of fat cells in that region.

One solution to a double chin, especially for the younger patient is with simple tumescent liposuction. A small incision is made under the chin which allows for suction removal of fat from the neck and jowl region. The platysma muscle can also be tightened through this incision which gives an even better angle between the neck and jawline. For the aging and overweight patient, surgical excision of excess skin is more than likely indicated along with liposuction to remove fat.

A chin implant can also be inserted to correct a small chin and add apparent length to the jawline which helps to balance the lower facial profile. (Seen in the second set of images above.)

Gimmicks, tricks and exercise will not help a double chin. Ulthera, Thermage and this silly little gizmo illustrated will not work.

If your condition is similar to the profile of our patients here, you may be a candidate for liposuction of the submental region (jowl and neck). The procedure runs in the neighborhood of $3000 to $4000 depending on the amount of fat and procedures included. And it works.
