Rhinoplasty – San Diego

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common procedures in plastic surgery and is extremely gratifying for the patient. Individuals born with a certain ethnic or family predisposition they are unhappy with can now enjoy the nose shape of their own choice.

The nose, centered in the middle of the face, commands much attention. Millimeters matter, and even the most minimal deformities can be noticed. When it is large or dominant, it overshadows the beauty and subtleties of other facial features such as the eyes or the mouth. Rhinoplasty can have significant enhancing effects on a person’s appearance and self confidence.

Dr. Reagan trained at one of the premier centers for learning rhinoplasty at The University of Texas at Southwestern in Dallas, home of the annual Rhinoplasty Symposium where surgeons from all over the world come to improve their rhinoplasty skills.

Surgeons are not all equally trained, nor are they equally proficient at all surgeries, and surgeries are not all equally challenging. Dr. Lee and Dr. Reagan are both experts in the rhinoplasty procedure and are commonly called on for Revision Rhinoplasty as well.

What Are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty enables patients to modify the shape, size and overall appearance of the nose. Thus, this surgery can help balance an individual’s facial features.

In addition, rhinoplasty offers a number of key benefits for men and women, including:

  • Improved breathing – Do you sometimes struggle to breathe out of your nose? If so, you may be a prime candidate for rhinoplasty, as this surgery could help you breathe better day after day.
  • Enhanced appearance and self confidence – Rhinoplasty enables you to enhance your facial appearance, and ultimately, may help you feel better about your overall appearance as well.
  • Better sleep – For those who often struggle with sleep apnea, rhinoplasty may help you revamp your nasal passageways to minimize breathing problems that otherwise can cause sleep issues.

Is Rhinoplasty Right for Me?

Deciding whether to get a nose job represents a major decision. As such, there are many indicators for rhinoplasty that should be considered during the decision-making process, including:

Dorsal Hump: a bump on the bridge of the nose, usually made of cartilage and bone. Can either be congenital (hereditary) or acquired (trauma).

Long Nose: The nose projects too far from the face. The length of the nose needs to be reduced, often requiring reduction of both the septum and tip structures.

Boxy, Bulbous, or Wide Tip: Deformities of the cartilaginous paired tip structure (lower lateral cartilages.) Suture technique will correct these deformities nicely.

Droopy Tip: Tip of nose hangs down, especially when smiling. Often associated with long nose. Tip needs shortening and elevation, sometimes requiring a graft (columellar strut).

Wide Dorsum: Wide nasal bridge. The bones need narrowing.

Wide Nostril/ Nostril Base: Overly wide nostrils, requires resection of soft tissue on lateral aspect of nostrils.

Deviated Tip: Rotation of the nasal tip, often associated with deviated septum. Tip structures need to released from scar tissue, straightened, and often reinforced with suture or cartilage grafts.

Asymmetry of Nose: Usually traumatic in origin. Structures need to be released from scar tissue, straightened, and re-inforced when necessary.

Difficulty Breathing: Often from Inferior Turbinate Hypertrophy (allergies) or Deviated Septum (traumatic).
