Laser Scar Revision
Scars form as part of the natural healing mechanism following injury or surgery. While the scar appearance is usually quite acceptable, occasionally the scar can raise, thicken, or become red. This type of scarring is called ‘hypertrophic scarring.’ Some individuals may even develop an extreme form of scarring called a ‘keloid.’
Laser Scar Revision
Advances in medical laser technology have made the treatment of scars easier and more effective than ever. At Changes, we use the newest laser technology to both treat the surface color of the scar, and also to go deeper and break up the collagen bunches that cause the scar. The result is a smoother, more evenly colored scar.
The application of this new laser treatment is limitless. It is effective on scars from accidents, dog bites, cesarean sections, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery and skin grafts. It also is effective on burn scars. Schedule a consultation to find out if a laser treatment can help your scar.
Your Results
The goal of our treatments is to get your scar to blend more naturally with the surrounding skin. As you progress through the various treatments, your scar will begin to match your natural skin even after just one treatment. If the scar is uneven in texture, laser scar revision will help smooth out the scar so that the area is flatter. Additional treatments will continue to improve these effects.
The Procedures
The procedures are simple in-office treatments done under local anesthesia. The procedures can take about 30 minutes depending on the size of the scar and type of treatment being performed. The scar may be tender and red for about a week before it improves.
This procedure is performed by your triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gilbert Lee, who has been voted by the San Diego Medical Society "Top Doctor" for the past 5 years running. Read more about Dr. Lee's qualifications on his CV.
