What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic, is a synthetically derived form of Botulinum Toxin A, a safe and reliable medication for reduction of dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are those that come on when expressing certain facial emotions. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a very popular, non-surgical treatment to give a more relaxed and youthful appearance. BOTOX® Cosmetic is most effective in treating wrinkles around the eyes and forehead that occur during smiling or exaggerated facial expressions. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into wrinkles in small amounts to relax the muscles underneath. This helps to soften wrinkles, lines, and creases, and in some cases, eliminates them.

The most often treated areas are:
- crow’s feet around the corners of the eyes

The Procedure
BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used in conjunction with plastic surgery, or used alone on the face and neck. BOTOX® Cosmetic results usually last between three and four months and can be repeated for longer-term results. For individuals who are not candidates for facelifts, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be an appealing alternative.
The treatment is simple and involves small injections into several locations. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments do not require anesthesia and because the needle is very fine, there is little discomfort. Results take up to 5-7 days for maximum effect.
Potential Risks
Occasionally, patients experience temporary muscle weakness near the injection site.
In very rare instances, patients can have a hypersensitive reaction to BOTOX® Cosmetic, such as redness and swelling at the injection site(s). These symptoms are extremely rare and usually subside after a few days.
