Intense Pulse Light (IPL)/ Photofacial
The Intense Pulse Light or IPL Photofacial is one of the powerful photo-therapies in Changes’ arsenal. The IPL Photofacial effectively treats hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and sun damage in a simple, fast procedure. IPL works by using light energy from a combination of wavelengths and intensities to penetrate into the dermis while leaving the epidermis (outside layer of skin) untouched. The light energy obliterates pigmented lesions within the skin, constricts blood vessels deep within your skin, and stimulates collagen production to rejuvenate your appearance. The treatments give you smooth, even toned skin. Because there is no damage to the surface, patients have only minimal redness and slight swelling immediately after the procedure. Patients are able to cover any redness with make-up and return to normal every day activities immediately. Schedule a consultation today to determine if the IPL Photofacial is right for you.
The Procedure
The IPL treatment will only take 15 to 30 minutes to perform. Usually 3 to 5 treatments are recommended to achieve maximum effectiveness, depending on your skin type and color. After your treatment, you may notice the sun/age spots darken, and you may also notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This redness typically subsides within a couple of hours. Then, over the course of 5 to 10 days, the darkened spots will fade and flake off. New sun spots may develop over time, but remember these too can be removed with further IPL treatments. Using sunscreen of SPF 30 or more will minimize sun damage and the prevent the appearance of new sun spots.
This procedure is performed by your triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gilbert Lee, who has been voted by the San Diego Medical Society "Top Doctor" for the past 5 years running. Read more about Dr. Lee's qualifications on his CV.
Your Results
When performed by a skilled medical professional, the IPL Photofacial will dramatically improve your skin’s appearance after even a single treatment. Additional treatments will continue to improve your skin by further eliminating pigmented lesions and redness. It is important to go to a medical facility with doctors and nurses trained specifically to use this photo-therapy as improperly administered treatments can leave you with burns and hyperpigmentation.
